Module 1: The Fundamentals & More of EAP / EFAP
In this first Module, participants will be given a detailed look at today’s workforce. They will be immersed in various knowledge components of EAP / EFAP. Key issues and trends impacting employees will be highlighted. And, the EAP mindset will begin to be explained as well as the role of the Employee Assistance counsellor.
Module 2: The Unique Role of the EA Counsellor
In Module two, you will grasp how EAP differentiates itself from other types of counselling and therapy. You will learn what clients EAPs target; how to formalize that first session; and the most important clinical questions to ask an EAP / EFAP client. Also, the stakeholders in EAP will be described and their roles defined.
Module 3: Introduction to Conducting a Comprehensive Assessment
In this module, the purpose of the Statement of Understanding will be explained and a demonstration on how to present it effectively to each client will be clearly articulated. The comprehensive assessment will be introduced and reviewed in detail. Sample EAP client case explorations will begin and will link new knowledge with new insight.
Module 4: Key Core Competencies
Module 4 will describe the core competencies specific to the field of EAP / EFAP. You will learn how to build rapport and establish immediate trust with a new client. Key genogram questions will be highlighted, deepening the assessment process. And, you will learn what information to seek prior to that first EAP session.
Module 5: Case Management & Due Diligence
This module will focus on the high ethical standards of confidentiality set by the field of EAP. You will learn how and when to use a consent form (or ROI). Emphasis will be given to the management of your case files and the writing of brief and effective notes. More case studies will be explored.
Module 6: Case Studies: Peeling back the layers
Module 6 will continue to explore case studies at a more involved level. A variety of probing questions will be suggested. Case review of a mandated referral will be featured. Clients presenting with conflict-at-work issues will be discussed in this course session along with ‘how’ and ‘when’ to use segments of an organizational chart.
Module 7: Marketing Yourself to the field of EAP
This module launches into the mindset of marketing in today’s social media world. Focus is on marketing to EAP Provider Companies. The importance of differentiating your ‘self’ from colleagues is explained. ‘How-to” tips on breaking into the EAP field are given. Also, advice is offered on ‘how-to’ communicate with the EAP Provider Co. designate.
Module 8: Cultivating an EAP Eye & A Resume / Cover Letter Review
Module 8 begins with teaching you to read the news with an EAP eye (or listen with an EAP ear) so that your appreciation of EAP / EFAP deepens even more. A little more on marketing will be addressed. A sample resume will be reviewed and components for a proper cover letter will be presented.
Module 9: Addressing: Medical Leave, Return-to-Work ( RTW) & Conflict-At-Work
Module 9 will focus on the EA counsellor’s role when working with clients on medical leave and facing the return to work process. Dealing with Conflict-At-Work Issues will also be addressed in this module. Information pertaining to a unionized client versus a non-unionized client will be explained. A relevant case study will be explored.
Module 10: Bonus Module
This bonus module has been developed to focus your attention on specific course highlights that will merit your attention for review. There will be further clarification on specific EAP / EFAP details and nuances in order to strengthen your new knowledge and skill set. Some essential marketing tips specific to EAP will be addressed.
